REENACTOR Q&A
1. When will the reenactment start? 9AM Saturday the camps open to the public. Battles each afternoon at 1PM. Soldier and period camp exhibits expected all day. 2. How early may I arrive? Friday at 9AM. If you need to arrive at the PARK earlier than Friday or stay later than Sunday at dusk, then you may make arrangements with the modern campground staff. 3. MODERN CAMPING? The Park has modern commercial campgrounds. To reserve a site and for more information please contact the park directly. 4. How late may I arrive? Any time on Friday through the night and until 11AM on Sat and 11AM on Sunday if you are coming for just that day. 5. How close is the participant parking? Within a three city block walk (1/3 mi) to the CS and US camp. 6. When may I take my vehicle to the camp? 9AM Friday – Midnight Friday. All cars must be removed by MIDNIGHT. No cars in camp on Sat morning or Sunday. Campsites begin at the battlefield road behind the HQ tent. If arriving very early (before 8:30) you may park beside the HQ tent and unload your camp gear, park your vehicle and return to setup your camp. 7. When may I pack-out? You may bring your vehicle into camp for ONE HOUR 4:30-5:30PM on Saturday. You may take this time to pack if you are departing Sat night or early Sunday morning. We understand and respect that not everyone may spend both days with us. All vehicles must be OUT of the interpretive area by 5:30. Vehicles will not be allowed back to the camps until 2:45 on Sunday 8. Where will the battle ground be in respect to the camps? All camps are to be pitched behind RD 4 w/ CS at one end of the line and US at the other. The battles will take place directly in front of the works at Redoubt 4. Main Parade is on the battleground also. 9. Camp Exception: A special US camp exhibit will be camped at the rifle pits 100 yards affront of the redoubt (YH Rifles). 10. Who will command? Two experienced field commanders that arrive with the most number of enlisted men and units beneath them (or that they request by voice vote) will command the US and CS sides. The Event Adjutant will handle logistics and that final selection for the whole event if a debate arises. 11. Galvanizing? This is an overwhelming US assault, but Saturday should have ground troops at 50:50. Sunday, we request that only one or two small rifle companies defend the CS works and all others volunteer to be US. The US impression on Sunday will be the most enjoyable anyway. 12. ARTILLERY? We would like to offer the CS position to the 1st three-four guns registered. Light howitzers and small Mortars would have best duty as US as they are more easily moved. We’re trying to avoid having to move any artillery by tractor after 11AM Sat. Powder provided to the first guns registered. 13. Evening entertainment or a Dance? There will be no scheduled dance. Camp-life is expected to provide it’s own enjoyments and the hour of 11 is expected for quiet. 14. Dinner Provided? There will be no meal provided. 15. Policing of camps? The event coordinator will attend the event in period attire. He shall be the final word in policing the camps. Each camp should show good sense in policing their own activities, and if they wish to set their own provost that is good and appreciated. 16. Sutlers Row. UPDATE Mar 1: One sutler is currently registered Goldsmith & Goolsby Dry Goods. A sutler area will be set aside along the main road behind Redoubt 4. If others register they will be reflected on the Registration List Page. 17. Individual soldiers (w/o a unit affiliation) are welcomed. You will be assigned to a unit after arrival. 18. Staff Officer impressions w/o troops to justify field service, are welcomed BUT you should be ready to provide a full day INTERPRETIVE program in your camp display to the public and please DO NOT participate as a CO in Morning Parade, drills or any part of the battles. PLEASE CALL AHEAD if you fall into this category and send a photo. A standing HQ tent w/ officers discussing the siege is the best impression in this situation. Only officer-impressions that were at Blakeley, April 1865 are needed. 19. CIVILIAN CAMPS? There is a small civilian camp set aside between the US and CS camps, alongside the dry creek bed behind RD4. You should maintain your own order and if military personnel upset your camp life, then you should bring complaints to their CO or to the event ADC. View the CAMP-LAYOUT map for the location. 20. CIVILIAN PROGRAMS? All participants SHOULD provide a realistic program each day by their presence. Soldiers provide the obvious program by drilling and fighting. Civilians should present the stresses of life as refugees in 1865. Special PUBLIC EXHIBITS are encouraged. If you have a special program, notify us in your registration, send a photo if possible and we will put you on the public schedule at specific hours to bring viewers to YOU. 21. FAMILY CAMPS? Are also set aside behind RD4. See map.
