This exhibition highlights the work of artists of varying skill levels inspired by plants of historical significance to the Blakeley area. Each piece is a depiction of a particular plant species native to the grounds of Historic Blakeley State Park and associated with its long human history. The project is the culmination of a year-long series of art instruction programs sponsored by the Alabama State Council on the Arts and Historic Blakeley State Park.

The pieces here, combined with other work produced during the classes held in the park, comprise a florilegium—or collection of depictions of plants—which help document Blakeley’s rich natural habitat. These pieces also help us understand how the environment has influenced the lives of those who have called Blakeley home over the centuries.
